What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Program Assistant position at City of Greenville, NC?
The purpose of this position is to assist with operating, promoting, and educating the public about Wildwood Park, a new adventure park within the City of Greenville. Wildwood Park focuses on outdoor recreational activities such as running, hiking, biking, and camping, along with lake-based and river recreation. This is accomplished by providing interpretative displays and oral programs; providing public information about park operations; and conducting routine maintenance and inspections of parks, trails, and centers. While working in collaboration with River Park North, Wildwood Park will be the primary focus of this position. Examples of Duties
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of Wildwood Park and ensure compliance with City policies and regulations;
- Plan, lead, facilitate, and evaluate programming in the outdoor recreation and environmental education fields to a diverse user group;
- Reach out to the community through civic groups and programs and develop/maintain partnerships;
- Maintain park trails and open spaces and ensure cleanliness of park areas;
- Supervise part-time employees and volunteers;
- Assist with leading community volunteer days;
- Attend environmental education and professional development workshops to stay abreast of industry trends;
- Complete weekly and monthly inspections for park facilities, trails, and amenities; keep records and prepare written reports;
- Assist with budget development;
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training part-time staff, planning daily activities, and facilitation of camps;
- Respond to public inquiries regarding programs and other pertinent matters;
- Research grants and write or assist with writing grants as assigned;
- Assist with development of Wildwood Park policies and procedures;
- Maintain, feed, and care for various live animals and their enclosures;
- Schedule and lead various tours throughout the year;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Environmental Science, Education, or a closely related field; and
- At least one year of related experience.

Special Requirements
- Valid NC Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Must possess and maintain valid First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Must be able and willing to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
