Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation, this position assists with oversight and director supervision of leadership positions within the Parks division to include ground maintenance operations of the city's parks, parkways, trails, Municipal buildings, Sports Park and Wright Park Golf Course.
Essential Functions:
- This position will oversee the operational divisions within the Parks and Recreation Department to include Parks & Golf, working alongside the Assistant Director of Recreation, and the Parks and Recreation Director.
- Offer high-level support to the Parks and Recreation Director by helping implement departmental strategic initiatives, acting as a liaison between the department and community members/groups, assisting boards and commissions, and preparing reports and presentations.
- Cultivate a positive, productive, and engaged workforce that supports learning, growth, and career development by supervising staff, onboarding new employees, evaluating performance, coordinating training, addressing areas for improvement, and actively contributing to team-building efforts.
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment by staying informed on emerging safety trends and protocols, fostering a welcoming guest experience, and addressing conflicts among staff.
- Lead and manage high-performing department services by developing, monitoring, and evaluating of facilities and amenities, overseeing budget targets, service and staffing levels, forecasting funding needs, recommending budget adjustments, and contributing to the creation and execution of departmental goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Create and promote a culture of effective communication and exceptional guest experience by maintaining open and transparent dialogue, engaging with the community, individuals, and groups, addressing sensitive or controversial matters, responding to inquiries, coordinating activities with other departments and external organizations, and participating in public events and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Parks, Recreation, Horticulture, or a related field; other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Five (5) years of experience with Parks, Athletic Field and Golf Course Maintenance with at least three (3) years directly supervising full-time staff.
- Valid Texas Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Continuously lift and carry up to 10 pounds
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
- Frequently stand and walk during a shift
- Frequently sit, bend and kneel during the shift
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
- Frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle or equipment
Starting Pay Rate: $40.00 Hourly/$83,200.00 Annually
