Summary
As an Inspector for the City of Gretna, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This position is essential for maintaining public safety and enhancing the quality of life for our community members.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with various departments to address compliance issues and promote public health initiatives.
- Interprets and enforces provisions of municipal, state, and federal laws and/or regulations pertaining to life safety, building construction, and property maintenance.
- Assists with customer service for the Building and Zoning department.
- Communicates with the public in an effective and courteous manner to de-escalate conflicts which may arise in the office or the field as a result of enforcing codes.
- Follows up with and tracks violations and notices to ensure mitigation of violations.
Qualifications
- Minimum one-year practical office experience involving public contact in planning, zoning, and/or building department, OR two years of college level courses in planning, project management, or related field.
- Minimum two years direct experience in computer-based word processing, preference given to legal notices and legal writings experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Pay: $23.18 - $24.90 per hour
