Substitute Teacher with potential to transition to Part Time Teacher 

The Grove City Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for a few outstanding Early Childhood Education professionals to join our team at the RecSchool program.
 
RecSchool offers age-appropriate group learning experiences for pre-kindergarten children with a mission to nurture each child’s self-confidence and love of learning through play, meaningful classroom experiences and a connection to the natural world.
 
We are currently hiring for our substitute teacher roster, with potential to transition into a part time role when our brand-new facility at Gantz Park opens in 2025.

Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the RecSchool Teacher, under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, is responsible for working within a teaching team, communicating daily activities to parents and working with children in a classroom setting.
 
The RecSchool Teacher shall be chosen solely on the basis of their qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of their successful experience.
 
- Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
 
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
 
- Sufficient knowledge to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the RecSchool Teacher

- Has the ability to follow directions, provide necessary services and enforce stated rules and regulations.
 
- College degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Recreation, or other related field preferred; progressively responsible experience in a comparable position may be substituted for the degree; must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy

The RecSchool Teacher shall have the following powers and duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor:

- Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.  

- Demonstrates regular attendance.
 
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
 
- Maintains all laws governing childcare facilities by the State of Ohio.
 
- Follows policies and procedures of the RecSchool program, as outlined in the parent handbook.
 
- Follows program philosophy while carrying out daily activities with children.
 
- Prepares weekly lesson plans to submit to Recreation Supervisor following preschool curriculum to provide an optimal environment for young children.
 
- Supervises classroom environment, volunteers, and student teachers. Implements plans for large group time, art and science activities and nature studies.
 
- Greets parents and children daily and keeps parents informed as to classroom and center happenings.
 
- Maintains positive communications with supervisor, staff members, parents, and children.
 
- Maintains a daily record of children's attendance.
 
- Participates in safety practice drills.
 
- Provides constant supervision of children for all indoor and outdoor activities.
 
 - Arranges and conducts parent/teacher conferences bi-yearly and provides written documentation of parent contact.
 
- Attends all staff and planning meetings and all RecSchool events.
 
- Attends Community & In-Service training and shares information with staff.
 
- Provides input for newsletter.
 
- Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
 
- Follows all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City.
 
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely required to stand, walk, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl on even and uneven surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.
 
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.

Knowledge of Appropriate early education and childcare practices; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; *City/department goals and objectives; *City/department policies and procedures; *workplace safety practices and procedures; *personnel rules and regulations; public relations.
 
Skill in typing; word processing; computer operation; calculator operation; use of modem office equipment; use of telephone/mobile phone.
 
Ability to carry out simple instructions; carry out instructions in basic written, oral, or picture form; interpret a variety of instructions in basic written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with problems involving several variables within a familiar context; read, copy, and record figures accurately; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; compile and prepare reports; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; instruct others; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; sort items into categories according to established methods; *maintain records according to established procedures; work alone on most tasks; answer routine telephone inquiries; develop and maintain effective working relationships; demonstrate manual dexterity; travel to and gain access to work site. (*indicates developed after employment)

Current adult, child and infant CPR and first aid certifications preferred.
