Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the RecSchool Teacher, under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, is responsible for working within a teaching team, communicating daily activities to parents and working with children in a classroom setting.
The RecSchool Teacher shall be chosen solely on the basis of their qualifications, and as shown by the adequacy of their successful experience.
- Has proven ability in oral and written communications.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.
- Sufficient knowledge to carry out a full range of varied responsibilities and discharge the accountability required of the RecSchool Teacher
- Has the ability to follow directions, provide necessary services and enforce stated rules and regulations.
- College degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Recreation, or other related field preferred; progressively responsible experience in a comparable position may be substituted for the degree; must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy
- Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
- Demonstrates regular attendance.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Maintains all laws governing childcare facilities by the State of Ohio.
- Follows policies and procedures of the RecSchool program, as outlined in the parent handbook.
- Follows program philosophy while carrying out daily activities with children.
- Prepares weekly lesson plans to submit to Recreation Supervisor following preschool curriculum to provide an optimal environment for young children.
- Supervises classroom environment, volunteers, and student teachers. Implements plans for large group time, art and science activities and nature studies.
- Greets parents and children daily and keeps parents informed as to classroom and center happenings.
- Maintains positive communications with supervisor, staff members, parents, and children.
- Maintains a daily record of children's attendance.
- Participates in safety practice drills.
- Provides constant supervision of children for all indoor and outdoor activities.
- Arranges and conducts parent/teacher conferences bi-yearly and provides written documentation of parent contact.
- Attends all staff and planning meetings and all RecSchool events.
- Attends Community & In-Service training and shares information with staff.
- Provides input for newsletter.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Follows all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
