The City of Hagerstown is seeking a Planner I, II, or III for the Planning and Economic Development Department. This position will coordinate Comprehensive Plan updates, implement Comprehensive Plan recommendations, analyze data and compile reports, write grants, process annexations and rezoning, prepare maps and other graphics, and assist with review of subdivisions and site plans. The ability to create graphic presentation materials in GIS and PowerPoint is required. Public speaking to community groups and written and oral presentations to Boards and Commissions in after-hours meetings is required. This position will be working in newly renovated office space in the heart of our growing and energetic downtown!
Education: : Planner I: Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field is required. Planner II: Master’s degree in planning or two years of approved training. Planner III: Master’s degree preferred or equivalent advanced training or years of service.
Experience: Planner I: Competency with computers and ability to work with people in difficult situations, analyze written and graphic data, prepare verbal and written presentations and report. Planner II: two years’ experience in the planning field; Planner III: four years of progressively responsible experience in the planning field.
License & Certification: A valid vehicle operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City Policy is required. AICP certification is preferred.
