What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works/Traffic - Streetlight Survey Tech position at City of Hampton, VA?
Function
The purpose of the class is to learn, gain experience and develop technical skills to access streetlights and field conditions to determine needs for upgrades and/or additional lighting. The class works under general supervision, according to set procedure, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- Requires high school graduation or GED
- Some experience in traffic operations preferred
- Electrical/electronic experience preferred
- General knowledge of hand tools.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Work zone certification preferred.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft word, Outlook and Excel Spreadsheets and be able to perform basic data entry and complete work orders
- Individual shall be working a night shift and must possess the ability to work independently after training. May be required to adjust work hours to assist with special projects or work during storms or other emergencies as needed. This may include weekends.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
