This position is for second shift, which is currently as listed below:
Tuesday - Friday, 3pm-11:30pm
Saturday, 8am-4:30pm
The purpose of the class is to perform complex work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of Emergency vehicles and equipment. The class works under general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Vocational, technical or trade school training in automotive technology preferred.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance of Fire Trucks and/or Ambulances or three (3) years of experience working on medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Experience must have included preventative maintenance checks, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Five (5) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair of complicated motor control panels and switches and gasoline and diesel emergency power supply systems or closely related experience.
- Must obtain Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Must be a Certified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector, licensed by the State of Virginia, or the ability to pass the requirements to obtain license within 90-days.
- Must obtain and maintain ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications in the truck content areas of "Electrical/Electronic Systems", "Diesel Engine" and ASE Medium/Heavy Brakes within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or have the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Must possess a complete set of automotive mechanic tools at all times while in this position.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
Salary : $46,035 - $82,862
