Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Vocational, technical or trade school training in automotive technology preferred.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance for the class of vehicles in the shop you are assigned.
- Experience must have included preventative maintenance checks, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must be a Certified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector, licensed by the State of Virginia, or the ability to pass the requirements to obtain license within 120-days.
- Must obtain and maintain one (1) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification for the class of equipment in your shop within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or have the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment, if assigned to Heavy Off-Road Shop.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a complete set of automotive mechanic tools at all times while in this position.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
Salary : $44,052 - $79,294
