What are the responsibilities and job description for the Small Business Development Specialist position at City of Hampton?
The purpose of the class is to work with existing and new businesses to share information on workforce development programs and resources to positively contribute to the companies’ success and ensure its competitiveness in the marketplace.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in business management, marketing, urban planning, public administration, or related field of study.
- A minimum of one (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in small business development, public relations, or sales.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work constructively and respectfully with City small businesses seeking assistance with their business growth and expansion.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and business community.
- May require some local travel and use of a personal vehicle.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
