As a Deputy Registrar, you'll:
The Deputy Registrar is a part-time position with a preferred hiring range of $23.70 - $26.07 per hour. The ideal candidate for this position will be willing to work a flexible schedule (up to 1,500 hours per year, on average), possess skills in entering raw data into spreadsheets, documents, or databases, and be able to serve as the lead worker of Officers of Elections.
As a Deputy Registrar, you'll:
- Determine the eligibility of voters to register, register eligible voters, and issue voter registration letters;
- Process voter registration applications and changes;
- Prepare, update, and maintain voter records and files in a computer-managed voter registration record system;
- Prepare, update, and maintain voter registration records, including processing absentee ballot requests and ballots;
- Provide information to the public, elected officials, candidates, and political party representatives concerning voter registration, election processes, and election regulations;
- Assist:
- With managing elections by providing information to candidates, verifying petitions, and maintaining candidate files;
- In registration drives;
- In the removal of inactive, deceased, prohibited, or relocated voters;
- In assembling material for election day and training sessions;
- The Director with the training of elections officers;
- In the maintenance, testing, and programming of voting equipment;
- In the update and maintenance of the election officer database;
- Election officers on election day and during early voting;
- Perform the duties of an officer of election during early voting;
- Make inquiries to voters for registration information;
- Verify registration records and changes as received from the State Board of Elections;
- Process mail, including voter verifications, change of addresses, absentee ballots, and more;
- Perform related work as required.
- High school diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) clerical experience, preferably in a Registrar’s Office. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
- A registered voter of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Bilingual abilities preferred but not required for consideration.
