What are the responsibilities and job description for the APPRENTICE LINEMAN position at City of Harrisonville?

General Definition of Work
Performs work assisting Journeymen Lineman in constructing and maintaining electrical lines and equipment to keep city lights in working condition while learning the basics of the power system, adhering to safety rules and regulations, attending the Missouri Public Utility Alliance (MPUA) Apprentice Lineworker Program, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the direction of the Line Crew Foreman.
Essential Functions
- Assists Journeymen Lineman in the accomplishment of their duties and learn to perform their jobs independently.
- Follows and adheres to safety rules and regulations; handles Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulated equipment and materials.
- Attends MPUA Apprentice Lineworker Program.
- Manages hardware; keeps hardware stocked and ready for linemen; removes hardware from shelves and stocks trucks; removes from trucks when job is completed.
- Maintains warehouse and trucks; ensures warehouse and trucks are clean and in an orderly condition.
- Installs, maintains, and replaces streetlights and related fixtures; uses bucket truck and similar equipment.
- Assists in repairing the City’s’ distribution system.
- Assists in building new overhead and underground powerlines.
- Resolves emergency situations after hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s or Technical degree and three to five years of experience in lineman/electrical work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications
- Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.
- A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the State of Missouri.
Pay ranges from $25.10 per hour up to $32.09 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
