General Definition of Work
Performs work maintaining and repairing all internal and external parks facilities and grounds, operating equipment to landscape, maintaining playground equipment, clearing park facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. This is on-call position rotating weekends, evenings and holidays.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks and Facilities Maintenance Manager.
Essential Functions
- Clean, preps, and maintains athletic fields and maintains courts, replaces lights, paints lines and installs nets when needed on courts.
- Perform a variety of grounds keeping tasks, including mowing ballfields, and edging lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, picking up trash and debris, applying fertilizers and herbicides, and planting flowers.
- Prepare rooms and facilities for scheduled activities and functions, including but not limited to meeting rooms, basketball courts, sports fields, etc.
- Participates in the upkeep of indoor and outdoor pool, public parks, parkways, buildings, grounds, and other landscaped areas.
- Maintains playground equipment, inspects, and repairs playground equipment, ensures the area is properly mulched and safe for use, assists with the assembly of playgrounds and similar projects as assigned.
- Cleans buildings and facilities, landscape areas, playground equipment, bleachers, picnic tables and shade structures.
- Empties refuse containers.
- Cleans stocks restrooms products at park facilities.
- Reports any facility problems, vandalism to supervisor.
- Remove snow and ice from entrances of assigned areas by shoveling or plowing, apply salt as necessary.
- Must be courteous and helpful to customers, staff and public.
- Performs additional duties as required.
- Follow city and department policies, procedures, and safety rules.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A valid driver’s license.
Special Qualifications
- Obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications from an approved organization within six months of hire.
- Become a Certified Safety Playground Inspector through an approved organization within six months of hire.
- Work independently, following oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold rain, or snow.
- Work a varied schedule, work hours set by departmental requirements
Pay ranges from $18.96 per hour up to $26.55 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
