Under general direction provides a wide variety of recreational services for a geographic area or district. Coordinates and participates in the planning, conduct, and administration of recreational activities which are designed to meet the recreational needs of that area. Established and maintains effective working relationships with community groups, agencies and individuals to ensure full participation and support for the recreational programs. Plan, organize, and supervise the activities and staff of recreation and educational programs such as aquatics, athletics, neighborhood activities, special interest classes and special events. Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the division; establish goals and objectives for area of responsibility. Participates in planning the division budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitor the budget for area of responsibility. Perform research, analyze findings, prepare recommendations for changes in recreational programming; monitor and evaluate program outcomes. Monitor and evaluate staff on a seasonal basis. Performs related work as required.
This is a HMEA union position and the hours of work are 40 per week.The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application and may include an oral test, written test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure: Knowledge of the theory and philosophy of recreation and its application to individual and group behavior; Knowledge of the wide variety of recreational interests and activities in a community; Ability to incorporate these into a community into a community recreation program for all ages and interest; Ability to cooperate with and interpret recreation to leaders in government and citizen groups; Ability to stimulate the interest and obtain the support of community leaders in a recreation program; Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of professional and non-professional recreation personnel and to coordinate the recreation activities of a number of playgrounds and recreation centers; Ability to train subordinate personnel in new developments and methods in recreation work; Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants and the general public; Ability to express oneself clearly orally and in writing; Ability to train volunteers in organizing and conducting recreational activities; Ability to develop and administer a budget for recreation programs on a geographic or community basis; Ability to inform, activate and involve a combined private and public recreation service system which is responsive to citizen needs and concerns.Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, or a closely related field. Completion of at one year of experience in community work requiring direct responsibility in organizing and coordinating a delivery system in recreation, social youth or family services.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve three (3) to twelve (12) months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
