Department of Public Works Director

Job Summary
The Director of Public Works is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of public works projects and services within the community. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong organizational skills and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through effective infrastructure management and maintenance. The Director will lead a diverse team, ensuring compliance with regulations while fostering innovation and sustainability in public works operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies and procedures for public works operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
• Oversee the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure including roads, bridges, parks, and utilities.
• Manage departmental budgets, ensuring proper allocation of resources for various projects.
• Collaborate with other governmental agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to address public works needs.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public works projects.
• Lead and mentor staff within the department, promoting professional development and teamwork.
• Utilize tools such as an Ohmmeter for conducting electrical assessments related to public infrastructure.
• Prepare reports and presentations for city council meetings regarding ongoing projects and departmental performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven experience in public works management or a similar role with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, project management practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using technical tools such as an Ohmmeter for operational assessments is advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $88,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
