This position reports to and receives direction from the Finance Director. The individual in this position performs a variety of account maintenance and other accounting related tasks in a public environment where effective communication is a crucial part of the person’s job effectiveness. The individual in this role is required to be well informed in accounting procedures and knowledgeable in financial matters affecting the city. This position proficiently utilizes a variety of office equipment and data management programs to generate payroll, prepare billings and receive payments, post budget information, run checks for payments, and perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Director and/or the City Administrator. The position requires:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to:
- Listen carefully to, understand, and effectively communicate through oral, written, and interpersonal communication channels.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Proficiently use general office equipment such as phones, computers, typewriters, copy machines, fax machines, etc.
- Work independently and exercise initiative, with general guidance and supervision.

- Use good judgment to make sound and reasonable decisions and problem-solving skills to respond to customer service needs in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies.
- Maintain complex accounting records and prepare reports.
- Accurately file information in a timely manner, keep up-to-date records, and maintain organized filing systems.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and organizations or individuals encountered with the community and general public in performance of job responsibilities.
- Manage time effectively to accomplish tasks in a timely manner and meet deadlines.

- Using English to communicate effectively with others.
- Operating computers, software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar office software to create documents and other materials, maintain information, and generate reports.

- Solving problems in response to organizational, departmental, and customer service needs.
Knowledge of:
- Appropriate professional office practices, principles and etiquette for providing quality customer service.
- Public sector, government, or related environment and operations and financial matters affecting city governments.
- Principles, procedures, and terminology associated with accounts payable/receivable and general ledger accounting systems.
- Laws and regulations associated with Payroll processing functions.
- * Business arithmetic.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree, certification, or equivalent training and/or education in bookkeeping, accounting, or related areas.
- Approximately 3 years experience working in accounting, payroll, and clerically-related functions in public sector or service organization.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
- Certified Treasurer in the State of Idaho (or a commitment to attain Treasurer’s Certification within three years).
- This is a Full Time position that will be scheduled M-F from 8 am to 5:00 pm for 40 hours per week.
