What are the responsibilities and job description for the City Planner position at City of Hazelwood MO?
The City of Hazelwood is now hiring a full time City Planner.
The purpose of this position is to perform routine, complex, technical, and professional planning work for land use and development within the City.
Duties Include:
- Administer site plan review for all City Departments
- Review zoning requests, subdivision requests, and special land use permits. Prepare and submit related documentation and recommendations
- Provide staff support to Plan Commission. Prepare and submit reports and information. Prepare and distribute Plan Commission meeting agenda. Act as Plan Commission liaison to others.
- Prepare annual planning division operating budget. Write and submit grant applications. Prepare cost estimates
- Coordinate and manage planning consultant contracts
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, and comments from the public and others regarding planning, zoning programs, regulations and ordinances. Provide professional and technical advice to developers/landowners
- Create maps and graphical information such as base maps. Update maps
- Administer zoning, parking, and related codes. Develop ordinance revision recommendations. Review and approve sign and fence permit applications and plans.
- Inspects various sites for assigned duties
- Staff Board of Appeals and Board of Adjustment. Testify before Boards and provide information. Schedule public meetings and hearings
- Serves as staff liaison to the Green Committee
- Assist City staff with development projects
- Participate in City long and short-range planning including master planning, park/open space, redevelopment and other projects
- Assists in developing and implementing growth management, economic development, housing, transportation and other areas as needed
- Administer Community Development Block Grant program with St. Louis County
- Handle land disturbance reports and activities
- Act as MS4 Coordinator with MSD. Inspect City maintained BMPs and prepare annual MSD reports
- Conduct demographic and other technical research related to planning. Develops and maintains planning databases
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner which promotes a good relationship with citizens, and other members of the community, co-workers, and supervisors
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Urban/Regional Planning or related field. Master's Degree preferred
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible land use planning, GIS and zoning experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities
- AICP certification preferred, but not required
Salary & Benefits:
- $68,796 - $87,049 per year
