YOUR PURPOSE

This technical role plays a key part in ensuring the seamless operation of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Meter Data Management System (MDMS) at peak performance. You’ll be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of data flow between the MDMS and Customer Information System (CIS), while also providing critical technical and operational support. Your contributions will directly enhance customer engagement, making a tangible impact on service quality and efficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

System Monitoring and Data Analysis

  • Create and manage queries and audit reports from MDMS, billing systems, and meter data collection software to support billing and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor AMI network components (collectors, repeaters, meter radio modules) using the AMI Head-End System (HES) and MDMS, identifying trends or anomalies.
  • Validate, estimate, and edit (VEE) interval data to ensure accurate and up-to-date meter readings.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot anomalies in system data, reports, and hardware, proposing and implementing corrective actions.

Data Reporting and Integration

  • Create and manage confidential data reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational analysis, including transformer load and leak detection.
  • Support system expansion by integrating new assets into AMI and MDMS.

System Maintenance and Optimization

  • Assist with both scheduled and unscheduled system maintenance to ensure ongoing functionality.
  • Recommend changes to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct gap analyses and gather requirements to support AMI/MDMS enhancements, documenting solutions for future needs.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to address issues, plan improvements, and implement new processes.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise reports to stakeholders, including clients and conference attendees.
  • Proactively communicate system status, issues, and resolutions across departments.

Issue Resolution and Troubleshooting

  • Address system performance reports and take corrective actions on data exceptions, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Escalate significant issues or trends to senior staff for further investigation.
  • Participate in end-to-end testing of AMI systems to ensure operational readiness.

Process Improvement and Training

  • Contribute to task groups focused on enhancing AMI system processes and methods.
  • Assist in training staff to build AMI-related competencies.

Customer Support and Emergency Response

  • Provide internal and external customer support for AMI-related inquiries.
  • Offer technical support during storm responses or major emergencies.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with state, federal regulations, and city policies, including OSHA standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information responsibly.

General Responsibilities

  • Monitor data transfers to prepare customer billing.
  • Attend local, state, and regional meetings on AMI/MDMS and related topics.
  • Maintain computerized records and conduct analyses using various software tools.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in water and electric utility management.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Formal Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.

Professional Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience with enterprise-level, critical systems.
  • Strong understanding of information security principles and industry best practices.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with SQL, including writing queries for data analysis and reporting
  • Experience creating reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar
  • Experience working with APIs or data integration processes to extract and analyze data from multiple systems.
  • Familiarity with database access and architecture.
  • Awareness of current industry trends.

Skills and Certifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Relevant industry certifications required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of AMI/MDM experience.
  • Degree or coursework in computer/information sciences.

  • Depth perception: Ability to judge distance and space relationships.
  • Field of Vision: Ability to see a wide span of area while focusing on one point.
  • Accommodation: Ability to adjust focus quickly.

  • Light Work:
    • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
    • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
    • Negligible force constantly for handling/moving materials related to the position.

  • Ability to oversee the use of arithmetic and statistics for preparing tests and reports.

Language Ability

  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English.

  • Primarily indoors, protected from weather conditions, though occasional outdoor responsibilities may expose the worker to various weather conditions.
