YOUR PURPOSE
The City of High Point is seeking a dynamic and experienced Risk Manager to spearhead the development and growth of its risk management program. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the City’s future by implementing innovative strategies, establishing best practices, and cultivating a culture of safety. As the Risk Manager, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the City’s operations and assets, while ensuring the ongoing success of its risk management initiatives. As an integral member of the Finance team, the Risk Manager will oversee insurance, worker's compensation, and safety programs, proactively identifying and mitigating risks across departments. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and strategic leader, ready to drive change, improve safety measures, and ensure compliance throughout the City.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
•Risk Management Program Development: Design, implement, and oversee the City’s comprehensive risk management program, including insurance coverage, worker's compensation, safety initiatives, and emergency preparedness.
•Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify areas of risk exposure, analyze potential hazards, and recommend appropriate strategies for risk treatment, including elimination, assumption, or transfer.
•Safety & Worker’s Compensation: Direct and manage the City’s safety program, while administering the worker’s compensation program to ensure compliance and effective claims resolution.
•Claims Management: Oversee the claims process in collaboration with third-party administrators (TPAs) and insurance carriers, including worker's compensation, liability, and property damage claims.
•ADA Coordination: Serve as the City’s ADA coordinator, ensuring compliance and supporting departments and facilities management staff in meeting accessibility requirements.
•Cross Departmental Collaboration: Work with various departments to develop and implement strategies for reducing risks related to workplace safety, security, property conservation, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness.
•Staff Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train subordinate staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
•Policy Development: Draft and implement administrative policies and procedures that promote risk reduction and ensure the fiscal integrity of the City’s risk management funds.
•Collaboration: Partner with the Human Resources Department, City Attorney’s Office, and other departments to address risk management issues and provide expert guidance.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
•Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in developing and administering risk management programs, preferably in the public sector.
•Strong understanding of insurance, insurance procurement, and risk management principles. 
•In-depth knowledge of OSHA and ADA regulations.
•Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
•Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
•Ability to work independently and show initiative in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience in risk management within municipal government.
•General knowledge of municipal finance, budget processes, and personnel administration.
•A commitment to customer service and continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements:
•Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
•Visual Abilities: Ability to perceive visual information at varying distances, including reading documents and operating a vehicle.
•Physical Strength: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, along with regular handling and finger dexterity for office-related tasks.
Work Environment:
•Primarily office-based, with occasional outdoor work depending on project needs.
•No significant occupational hazards.
