The Risk and Business Continuity Manager plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive health and safety program in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. He/she is responsible for preventing controllable dangers, accidents, and other safety hazards for all campus locations including those with College sanctioned activities. Scope of responsibilities also include the business continuity program, disaster planning and recovery and emergency procedures. The manager is a key member in the emergency response cadre and must effectively coordinate safety and business processes across all areas of the college to assure a safe learning and working environment for GTCC students, employees, and visitors.

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or other acceptable field required
- Master’s degree in related field preferred
- Preferred credentials include Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and Certified Safety Professional
- Preferred credentials include, Certified Public Sector Continuity Professional (CPSCP), Certified Business Continuity Manager (CBCM) or equivalent certifications
- NIMS 100, 700, 800 or higher-level certifications
- Minimum five (5) years of applicable experience in the development and administration of risk management and health/safety programs, preferably in the public sector. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrable experience in the management and leadership of emergency response agencies or similar experience with the development of business continuity and emergency response for large corporations preferred
- Kuali Ready Business Continuity Software
- Higher Education or Public Safety background
- Broad-based knowledge of regulatory requirements by agencies including, but not limited to, NIMS, OSHA, U.S. Dept. of Education, EPA, NFPA, FEMA, and NC Industrial Commission.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit discretion and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
- Capable of working in team environment within the department, across the college and with external emergency response agencies.
- Skilled at developing and applying college policies and procedures, as well as federal, state and local regulations.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Proficient use of PC for spreadsheets, word processing, email, and internet.
- Ability to maintain effectiveness under pressure
- Excellent motivational, interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to influence participation and compliance by individuals who are not direct reports.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Capable of working non-routine schedule when necessary. This includes situations such as call-backs for emergencies, extended hours for completion of tasks with critical deadlines, or other conditions which cannot be readily foreseen or anticipated.
- Serves as Chair of the Risk Management/Health and Safety Committee and member of the Threat Assessment Team.
- National Incident Command System (NIMS) training certification maintained current.
- Successfully complete training on Anti-Harassment, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Personal Information Protection (PIP), Reporting Requirement, and Ethics Law in North Carolina.
- Acceptable background record and credit check required.
- A valid driver’s license accompanied by an acceptable driving record is required for this position.
- Work is primarily sedentary. However, physical demands of this position may include but are not limited to standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, smelling, speaking, hearing, seeing, reaching, driving an automobile, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional exposure to dust, chemical fumes, high noise levels, heights, high voltage electrical power, extreme heat or cold conditions, and other industrial conditions can be expected. - Base location is the Jamestown Campus with responsibilities at the Greensboro, High Point, Cameron and Aviation Campuses and other college locations as needed.
