What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Summer Program Coordinator position at City of Hobbs?
Assist the Summer Program Coordinator in performing routine and professional administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing, coordinating and administering of a community summer playground program, recreation classes and a variety of playground, class and community special event programs.
- Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position. Coordinate and provide leadership and direction to summer playground staff in the development and implementation of activities and special events.
- Motivate and evaluate assigned staff; Review progress and direct changes as needed.
- Communicate official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
- Issue written and oral instructions; Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Maintain harmony and resolve grievances among workers and participants; Perform or assist subordinates in performing duties; Adjust errors and complaints.
- Assist in the development and implementation of special events and recreational enhancement program for playground participants.
- Introduce new games and events to workers and participants; Promote teamwork, self esteem, cooperation, and character building aspects through special games and events.
- Assist in the development and distribution of letters, flyers, news release and related forms of communication regarding the summer programs and special events.
- Oversee the enforcement for the City personnel manual and related policies and procedures by recreation staff and patrons.
- Promote interest and provide information regarding recreation program to other recreation officials, other City divisions and the general public.
- Supervise classes and activities for persons engaged in the summer playground program, recreation classes and summer special events
Graduation from High School or GED, plus two (2) years accumulative experience in a supervisory position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES;
- Working knowledge in planning and administration; Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operation and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; Skill in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to develop, coordinate and direct various activities involved in a community recreation program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
- Recreational equipment: balls, bats, craft supplies, etc., phone, calculator, radio, copy machine and automobile.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid State issued Driver's License
- Residency requirement: residing within the five (5) mile planning radius of the city. *See personnel manual for more details

- Work under the close supervision of the Program Coordinator and the Summer Program Coordinator
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
- Exercise close supervision over part-time recreation staff, playground workers and recreation class workers.
