What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER SPORTS PROGRAM COORDINATOR position at City of Hobbs?
Perform routine and professional administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing, recruiting, coordinating and administering of a community summer sports program to include basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, football, league play and various other games.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position.
- Oversee the implementation of all City-wide sports events happening during the summer to include City of Hobbs Summer Sports, Night League, and any sport special event.
- Coordinate summer sports staff by providing leadership and direction in the development and implementation of activities and special events. Motivate and evaluate assigned staff. Monitor progress and direct changes as needed. Make presentations to supervisors and the general public. Communicate official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
- Prepare and monitor weekly work schedules for sports staff to insure adequate coverage of programs. Issue written and oral instructions. Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Recruit and hire all summer sport staff. Maintain harmony and resolve grievances among workers and participants. Perform or assist subordinates in performing duties.
- Maintain related records for all sports programs. Collect and report data related to Summer Sports including but not limited to daily participation, daily meals served, and incident report.
- Manage and supervise sports facilities during scheduled programs to include crowd control, player and instructor supervision. Responsible for City equipment used for daily operation of Summer Sports
- Promote interest and provide information regarding sports programs to general public.
- Assists in the recruitment of independent contractors needed for the operation of summer sports programs such as basketball officials.
- Oversee the enforcement of the City personnel manual and related policies and procedures by summer sports staff and program participants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of sports philosophy, planning and administration. Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operation and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation sports program. Skill in operation of listed equipment and tools; Skill in First Aid and CPR required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructors. Ability to develop, coordinate and direct various activities involved in a community recreation sports program.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid State issued Driver's License

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Basketball equipment, scoreboard, score clock, soccer equipment, football equipment, tennis equipment, volleyball equipment and various other sports related tools and equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the general supervision of the Sports Coordinator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercise close supervision over seasonal sports staff and independent contractors assigned to Summer Sports Programs.
