What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver position at City of Hopewell?
Provides transportation services to passengers served by the department to ensure their safe transportation.

Essential Physical Activities:
- Greets passengers and assists them entering and exiting the van and with luggage or packages.
- Transports passengers to their requested destinations within local and surrounding areas.
- Conducts vehicle pre-maintenance inspections prior to usage and conducts safety and security checks at the end of the day.
- Keeps records of pickups and drop-offs.
- Regularly cleans and maintains the vehicle.
- Monitors the passengers and enforces rules to ensure passengers’ safety.
- Reports all accidents and incidents immediately to supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimal related experience (less than 6 months) working with senior citizens preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Valid VA driver’s license required.
- First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of senior citizens’ and adults that have special needs, preferred
- Knowledge of vehicle, radio communication system, and laws and regulations governing van operation
Skills:
- Customer service, oral and written communication skills
- Skill in operating van and making minor repairs
Abilities:
- Ability to drive a multiple passenger van
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patrons
- Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
Essential Physical Activities:
- Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, hearing, seeing -up close, seeing far away, kneeling, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
