The Houston Information IT Services (HITS) Department provides enterprise IT services for the City of Houston. These services include voice and network, cyber-security, email and communication platforms and shared enterprise applications that are used by all City employees.
The IT Specialist - Infrastructure position is responsible for documenting the as-built conditions of the IT system infrastructure including, but not limited to, IT outlets, devices and cabling, IT room layout and rack elevations, IT patching matrix, etc.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment spaces with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditioning. May occasionally require work in an outdoor environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or Drafting, Construction Management related field.
Related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
EXPERIENCE
At least three (3) years of technology related work experience supporting IT infrastructure including in engineering, drafting and/or designing low voltage building systems (Communications, Security, Audio-Video, Fire Alarm, etc.)
System-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.
LICENSE
A valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston s policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

- Collecting and managing the IT as-built drawings of citywide facilities.
- Updating the existing as-built drawings when there is move/add/change of IT system device or cabling.
- Developing As-built drawings for existing facilities.
- Developing and updating the IT patching matrix.
- Developing and updating the IT Standard example drawings and details.
