DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Database Installation and Configuration: Setting up and configuring SQL Server instances, ensuring optimal performance and security settings.
• Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitoring database performance, analyzing query execution plans, and identifying bottlenecks to optimize performance.
• Backup and Recovery: Implementing and managing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability in case of failures.
• Security Management: Managing user access and permissions, ensuring that data is secure and compliant with regulations.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnosing and resolving database issues, providing support to application teams and end-users.
• Database Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks such as indexing, updating statistics, and ensuring data consistency.
• Capacity Planning: Monitoring database growth and planning for future capacity needs to accommodate increasing data loads.
• Replication and High Availability: Implementing and managing database replication and high-availability solutions to ensure uptime.
• Data Migration: Assisting with the migration of databases to new environments or versions, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Documentation: Maintaining detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures for reference and compliance.
• Upgrades and Patching: Applying patches and upgrades to the SQL Server environment to maintain security and performance.
• Collaboration: Working closely with developers, network engineers, and other IT staff to design and implement database solutions that meet business needs

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.
Usually has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized applications.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting applications.
Advanced certifications and/or greater than six (6) years applicable experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

Preferences will be given to those with the following skill sets:

• SQL Server Proficiency: 6 Years of strong knowledge of MS SQL Server, including its architecture, features, and tools.
• T-SQL Programming: Proficient in Transact-SQL (T-SQL) for writing queries, stored procedures, and functions.
• Database Design: Understanding of data modeling and database design principles, including normalization and indexing strategies.
• Performance Tuning: Skills in optimizing query performance and database operations, using tools like SQL Server Profiler and Execution Plans.
• Backup and Recovery: Knowledge of backup strategies and disaster recovery planning, including implementing point-in-time recovery.
• Security Management: Familiarity with SQL Server security features, including roles, permissions, and auditing.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR): Experience with solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, replication, and clustering.
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Ability to monitor database health and performance, and troubleshoot issues effectively.
• Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell or other scripting languages for automating tasks and managing databases.
• Data Migration: Skills in migrating data between environments and different versions of SQL Server.
• ETL Processes: Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Reporting and Analysis: Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting tools.
• Documentation: Strong documentation skills for maintaining records of configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and management.
• Continuous Learning: A willingness to stay updated with the latest SQL Server features and industry trends.
• DevOps: Experience working on DevOps.
