DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department is seeking a qualified candidate for a Customer Service Clerk to perform the following duties:
1. Performs basic research and gathers necessary information to resolve routine customer problems and respond to inquiries via mail, telephone, e-mail, and personal contact. Communicates findings to customers. Refers non-routine problems to supervisor.
2. Performs data entry activities to update customer records within authorized limits.
3. Gather client information for Income screening and health history.
4. Collect anthropometric measurement for all clients and graph values.
5. Perform biochemical collection in the form of a finger stick.
6. May act as a backup to a customer service section and an administrative support section.
7. May process work orders/requests and make changes to update customer account information.
8. May gather or collect information to generate reports, activity logs, etc.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of clerical/customer service experience are required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
