Position Overview

REPORTING LOCATION: 5320 N. Shepherd Drive
WORKDAYS & HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Assists with the development, implementation, and periodic review of emergency management plans, procedures, and guidelines. Supports emergency management goals through specific tasks including, but not limited to, maintaining records, compiling documentation, and generating reports and other products. Maintains proficiency in jobs tasks through regular training attendance and participation in exercises. Assists with citywide preparations and activities in the event of an emergency and assists in the implementation of continuity plans. Assists with evaluation and design of workflow, processes, and various emergency plans, etc. Performs other emergency management related tasks as assigned. Must be able to respond from residence to the Houston Emergency Operations Center and/or Houston Public Works Department Operations Centers within 60 minutes. This position will be a Tier 1 employee and thus, during emergencies, are required to report to their supervisor for duty assignment and scheduling. Working hours will include no notice, nights, weekends, and holidays.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is physically comfortable with discretion of walking, standing, etc. Essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, public health, criminal justice, or public administration or a related field.
Experience Requirements
One year of experience in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, public health, criminal justice, or public administration.
Substitution: Experience in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, public health, criminal justice, or public administration may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-to year basis.
License Requirements
None
PREFERENCES
However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
SAFETY IMPACT POSITION Yes
If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
