DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducting thorough visual inspections of SCBA units, checking for damage, wear, and proper function of all components like hoses, regulators, masks, and cylinders. Conducting fit tests on users to ensure their SCBA masks properly seal to their face.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Repair and maintain SCBA and other firefighting equipment. Keep meticulous records on all SCBA repairs. Communicates and resolves issues with vendors and classified personnel in absence of the Maintenance Supervisor. Assists with the creation of routine testing schedules. Processes warranty items per manufacturer’s guidelines. Ensure annual/quarterly/monthly testing is completed in a timely manner at various fire stations. Educates and informs classified members on processes and procedures involving SCBA equipment per manufacturers' guidelines. Issues SCBA repair parts and supplies of firefighting equipment and adhering to all tracking specifications required. Utilize our inventory system in SAP and assist with all other Distribution Center areas when needed. Provide a high level of customer service in person and over the phone with an outgoing and positive attitude.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution in a warehouse environment. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis, and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines, or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).PREFERENCES
- Applicants that have prior experience in maintenance and repair of SCBA equipment including but not limited to wireframes, electronic modules, pressure reducers, and all related SCBA material.
- SCBA certification and knowledge of NFPA guidelines as they refer to SCBA would be preferable.
- Experience with the inventory tracking system within SAP and database work, such as Excel or Access
- Three (3) years of repair and maintenance of SCBA equipment
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** SELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
Department may administer a skills assessment test.
