Job Title: Senior Engineer
Current Salary Range (K): $76,377.60 - $121,492.80
Expected Hiring Range: $76,377.60 - $100,256 (depending upon qualifications)
This is a highly responsible professional engineering position related to local government engineering. The job involves providing project engineering and management assistance for various types of public and private projects, supervising contractors, consultants, clerical and other support staff, reviewing and correcting work and procedures as required. Work is performed independently and is reviewed in progress or upon completion for adherence to sound engineering practices.
The incumbent will plan, design, and serve as construction manager of various studies and improvement projects including connectivity-type projects (i.e. roadway, sidewalk and trail projects), traffic related projects (i.e. signal, intersection improvements), and/or utility related projects (i.e. fiber conduit, drainage, water distribution, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, manages, and interacts with engineering consultants and other department staff on studies, preliminary designs, final designs and construction services for all traffic, roadway, connectivity (sidewalks, trails, etc.), fiber distribution and other utility related projects.
- Provides project engineering and management assistance for various types of projects as well as supporting proposed residential, commercial and industrial development.
- Investigates resident complaints involving construction projects, traffic signal, roadway signage/markings, drainage, fiber system, water-system or other related City functions.
- Shall review for compliance, private and public improvement projects including roadway, traffic signal, sidewalk, utilities, trails/paths, site plans and survey plats.
- Shall monitor, coordinate updates, and assist with maintenance of the City's traffic signal system as needed.
- Attends evening meetings including Planning Commission, City Council, or other outside governmental agencies as directed.
- Serves as liaison to Engineering Department and follows up on Council and other governmental agency activities as directed by the City Engineer.
- Generates and provides reports as needed to answer questions, concerns and needs of the public.
- Receives calls from the public pertaining to traffic signal, sidewalk/roadway safety, drainage, utility construction and other calls as needed.
- Assesses the nature of the call and makes field visits to ascertain issue as either a public or private matter.
- Coodinates corrective measures as needed.
- Ensures projects are designed with sound engineering judgment and represent the best interest of the City and its residents.
- May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
Requirements:
- Possession of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), or other engineering degree related to assignment.
- Professional and considerable experience in engineering design, project management, preferably in the traffic, signal, and roadway engineering field, fiberoptic cable systems, storm water or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of fundamental engineering and design work as applied to the planning, location, and construction of projects within the City for the engineering specialty to which assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of civil engineering design methodology within specialty field, including ability to interpret and apply local, Federal and State engineering standards, policies and procedures.
- State of Ohio Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
- State of Ohio driver's license.
