About our Department:
The primary goal of Huntsville Fire & Rescue is to serve the public by protecting life, property and the environment. The department is staffed with well-trained personnel and teams with diverse and highly specialized skill sets to meet the wide-ranging demands for the City of Huntsville, Alabama. On a daily basis the department staffs and coordinates 21 engine companies, 7 ladder trucks, 5 rescue trucks, along with a Special Operations Division which includes, Hazardous Materials Units, Technical Rescue Units, and several specialized support units. Huntsville Fire & Rescue also has investigations, emergency response dispatch, logistics, and training divisions, all of which are diverse, innovative and efficient.
Fire Strategic Planning Coordinator Position Overview:
This is specialized, complex, technical and administrative work in developing and assisting in the implementation of plans and operating procedures, coordinating resources, supporting incident command structures, and development of incident command training for Fire & Rescue personnel. Work involves using Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and Homeland Security practices and principles to develop emergency operations and incident action plans for the Huntsville Fire & Rescue Department for all hazards City wide in coordination with the Madison County Emergency Operations Plan and other City departments. Assists in disseminating information to staff personnel and emergency action recommendations, and to assist in coordinating responses among local, state and federal government agencies and Huntsville Fire & Rescue. Work also focuses on planning, mitigation response, demobilization, tracking costs, and managing reimbursement documentation.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Safety, Emergency Management or related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and experience in emergency or disaster work. Masters in Public Safety Administration, Emergency Management or a related field highly desired.
