Public Works Supervisor

Overview
The Public Works Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the planning, execution, and maintenance of public works projects and services within the community. This position is responsible for ensuring that all public infrastructure is safe, efficient, and meets the needs of residents. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a commitment to public service, and a thorough understanding of public works operations.

Duties

• Manage and supervise public works staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality service delivery.
• Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of various public works projects including roads, bridges, parks, and utilities.
• Develop and maintain operational budgets for public works departments while ensuring compliance with local regulations.
• Coordinate with other governmental agencies, contractors, and stakeholders to facilitate project completion.
• Monitor ongoing projects to ensure adherence to timelines, quality standards, and safety regulations.
• Conduct regular inspections of public infrastructure to assess condition and identify maintenance needs.
• Prepare reports on project status, budget expenditures, and departmental performance for presentation to city officials or community stakeholders.

Skills

• Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication skills to effectively manage teams and interact with the community.
• In-depth knowledge of public works operations including construction management, maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions in a timely manner.
• Familiarity with project management software and tools for tracking progress and reporting outcomes.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure projects are completed efficiently.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Seven years of specific experience in one or more of this position’s functional areas including street, parks, and wastewater system maintenance.
• Supervisor experience with sufficient authority for majority of key personnel decisions.
• Valid MN Class A driver’s license with air brake endorsement.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37.25 - $50.77 per hour
