What are the responsibilities and job description for the Municipal Services Water Production Maintenance - Production Maintenance Supervisor position at City of Independence?
Under general supervision, performs work involving supervising, planning, organizing and directing the equipment maintenance activities at the City’s Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant. Schedules and assigns work in accordance with state guidelines and approved budgets; establishes priority and required deadlines. Prepares and updates maintenance manual and preventative maintenance record system. Develops maintenance programs to ensure timely and efficient maintenance of water system equipment and operations. Assist in supervision of work by outside contractors. Directs material handling and inventory activities in the division; purchases equipment, parts and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned. May respond to problems related to the production activities during and after hours, weekends or holidays, as required.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Four to six years of progressively responsible related experience with two years at a supervisory level; any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must have a valid driver’s License. Must have a Class D Water Operator License and complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire date. Knowledge of principles and practices of water treatment plant operations; contract administration; report preparation, records management and basic budgetary principles and practices. Skilled in analyzing and resolving administrative situations and problems; oral and written communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, electrical drawings and blueprints. Physical Demands: Regularly required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions: Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and possible bodily injury from electrical shock, electrical explosions, and moving mechanical parts of equipment. Conditions are typically office setting.
