The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of Water Resource Recovery Operator or Apprentice.
The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people, and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera, and the National Balloon Museum, and the U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks, and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair, and other events.
This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Operates treatment facilities to control the flow and processing of wastewater, bio-solids, and effluent.
- Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses.
- Operates wastewater equipment such as jet-vac, televising equipment, mowers, and trucks.
- Pumps and clean bio-solids tanks.
- May have sole responsibility for operating the treatment facilities on a weekend.
The successful candidate will have:
- High school diploma or GED; preferably additional courses in chemistry or wastewater
- Prefer one (1) year of experience as a skilled laborer in performing maintenance work.
- The apprentice is expected to secure an unrestricted Grade I and II Wastewater Operators Certification from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Grade I within 15 months of employment and Grade II within 40 months of employment.
- Possession of a current Class B CDL with Tanker and Air Brakes endorsement or able to obtain one within 6 months of hire date and maintain a license for the duration of employment.
Hourly Rate Range: Apprentice: $27.420 - $30.170, Grade I: $30.204 - $33.238, Grade II: $30.827 - $35.592, Grade III: $33.916 - $39.167, Grade IV: $35.581 - $41.094.
This is a Full-Time union position requiring 40 hours per week and residing within a forty-five (45) minute travel time to their place of work under normal road conditions within 6 months of their hire date.
