As the Aquatics Program Supervisor at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, you will lead the efforts to develop, implement and supervise a comprehensive aquatics program. Duties include supervising aquatics staff; scheduling and planning aquatic activities, events, and rentals, marketing aquatic programs; and managing the aquatics budget, revenues, and expenditures.

•Responsible for allocating, scheduling and communicating appropriate facility usage between City programs, VMCC members, school districts (e.g., ISD 199) and others.
•Facilitates and manages pool rentals with partner organizations, outside groups and private rentals.
•Creates and monitors safety protocols and ensures compliance with certifications, safety policies and procedures.
•Establishes and implements a quality swim lesson instruction program for all ages.
•Establishes staffing needs for open swimming, swim lessons and events.
•Reviews, prepares, or revises aquatics curriculum as necessary, structures classes for systematic progression and development of aquatic skills.
•Manages registration and resolves participant concerns or questions regarding aquatics classes and programs.
•Manages and oversees birthday party reservations, ensuring appropriate staffing and supplies.
•Plans, prepares and makes recommendations for the annual budget for the aquatics center.
•Builds and fosters a positive relationship with internal and external customers.
•Plans and implements special events for the aquatic facilities and the department.
Supervises aquatics personnel to include:
•Recruit, hire, train, coach and supervise aquatics staff, including the Aquatics Specialist, pool attendants, birthday party hosts, lifeguards, water safety instructors and aquatics managers.
•Develop staff training manuals and conduct in-services and ongoing training to ensure VMCC policies and best practices in aquatics policies and procedures are observed.
•Identify appropriate coverage and schedule staff for activities, monitors schedule, approves sub requests and covers shifts as necessary.
•Provides staff with class/rosters and schedules; emergency procedures; building and facility use policies and schedules; behavior and rules of conduct; safety and first aid procedures; and training materials.
•Performs customer service/client duties. Handles public questions, concerns or complaints regarding programs and services. Provides training to promote high standards for efficient, polite, and quality customer service.
•Monitors job performance and compliance with procedures, conduct staff performance reviews as needed. Ensure compliance with City personnel policies and standards.
•Monitors recordkeeping of licenses and certificates for aquatics staff, in accordance with city guidelines and procedures.
Collaborates with the Park & Recreation Department’s Communication Specialist on marketing and program informational materials. Prepares program and registration information for brochures or other marketing materials (e.g., flyers, direct mailings, newsletters, educational brochures, and social media). Ensures public calendars are updated and correct.
Attends relevant seminars and conferences and participates in professional associations to stay up to date in the field.
Acts as a city representative or liaison to community organizations and/or organizations. Builds positive community partnerships with stakeholders. Represents the city in a professional and positive manner through public speaking engagements, correspondence, events, and programs.
Keeps the Recreation Superintendent informed of significant issues or challenges impacting areas of responsibility.
Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as apparent or assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Education or related field,
plus 3 years aquatics and recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the work.
•Certifications/Licenses: (or successfully obtain within the first twelve months of employment)
Desirable Qualifications:
•American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor
•Certified Pool Operator or AFO
