The City of Issaquah Parks and Community Services Department invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Farmers Market and Event Lead. Under the supervision of the Rentals Supervisor, this position aids the City of Issaquah Farmers Market and rental events at the Pickering Barn. An incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills and tact, organizational and planning ability and be able to respond to vendors, performers, or customers. Duties are often performed under stressful situations with rigid deadlines. This work requires a great deal of interpersonal activity. The work includes, day of market and event execution, assists with organizing, implementing, and evaluating market and event activity. In part: opening the facility for clients, lifting, and moving tables and chairs, overseeing event activities, assisting clients when needed, keeping the facility clean and organized, and cleaning up before and after events. The work is usually performed among others but requires the confidence to work independently.
This position is part-time and consists of a semi-structured work schedule. The Famers Market hours are seasonal and consistently 6:30 am – 3:30 pm each Saturday May through September. Pickering Barn event shifts are scheduled month to month year-round "as needed" based on your availability. Hours and shifts vary on any given day of the week and will vary in length, Sunday through Saturday. The hours are flexible and scheduled based on the hours the venue has been rented by a client.Work Environment
This position frequently requires late evening hours and variable month to month scheduling. Most of the hours available are on the weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) but weekday hours are prevalent as well. Work may be physically demanding and require walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds. Employees climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work is performed inside and outside, in all types of weather conditions. The farmers market happens, rain or shine.

- Represent the City of Issaquah with professionalism and superb customer service.
- Assist with weekly set-up and tear-down of the Issaquah Farmers Market at the Pickering Barn during market season, when scheduled.
- Communicate with potential and established Farmers Market vendors, community partners, and shoppers.
- Communicate with rental clients and their vendor teams.
- Oversee Market Info Booth, Food Court, Entry & Exit Stations, Waste Stations, etc.
- Distribute currencies for food access programs and offer program information to shoppers.
- Help lead indoor and/or outdoor special events such as weddings, trade shows, auctions, banquets & corporate functions held at the Pickering Barn.
- Perform custodial and light maintenance duties, which most commonly includes full restroom cleaning & restocking, sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage inside and outside the facility, garbage transport, picking up litter, etc.
- Maintain program equipment in good working order and inform supervisor of necessary maintenance.
- Provide administrative support intermittently, when needed, to support programs.
- Oversee event activities and provide on-site assistance during the event to clients, including supervisory monitoring of guest conduct.
- Assure guest safety and enforce facility, health department, and liquor department policies.
- Communicate with event planners, caterers, bartenders, DJ’s, and all other hired vendors for the event day of providing facility assistance where needed.
- Lead and monitor client event clean-up after each event ensuring that equipment is organized in proper locations and cleaning is completed thoroughly.
- Complete end of event walkthrough evaluations.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
- Interest in community recreation, agriculture and/or event planning preferred.
- An independent worker who proactively looks for cleaning and organizing work to be done to maintain the appearance of the venue and improve customer experience.
- A combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills & abilities to perform the job will be considered.
- Qualified applicants over 18 years of age must pass a criminal background screen.
