What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gliders Track & Field Head Coach position at City of Issaquah?
The Spring Track & Field season will run Monday, April 21 – May 22 and the Summer Track & Field season will run June 2 – July 17. Practices are an hour long and will take place Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, (and Fridays during Spring season) with some track meets on Thursdays. Staff shifts will run 6:00 – 7:30 PM. The Head Coach is also required to meet with the Gliders Leadership Team and help lesson plan prior to the season starting. The position is open to individuals ages 18 years and older and ideally for those who have track & field experience.
- Act both as a running coach and running partner for both Track and Field and Cross-Country programs.
- Run with participants on tracks, trails, sidewalks, and City Park tails.
- Coordinate, set up, and clean up at track and cross-country meets.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to gain certification.
- Track and field, cross country, or other running experience.
- Attendance at practices and events required.
- Experience with Gliders program preferred.
- Volunteer or paid coaching experience preferred.
- Familiarity with schools and trails in Issaquah and Sammamish preferred.
- Ability to pass a driver’s abstract and city van training (if necessary)
- Qualified applicants over 18 years of age must pass a criminal background screen.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a group.
- Ability to interact with and motivate children.
- Ability to supervise and mentor staff.
- Ability to come up with Track & Field lesson plans for up to 5-8 weeks.
