Streets Maintenance Division: The City of Jacksonville Streets Division maintains over 150 miles of paved streets, soil roads, and sidewalks along the street system as well as drainage systems within City limits. Maintenance Workers in the Streets Division play a vital role in maintaining the City's streets. Some ditches, creeks and streams in the City of Jacksonville carry stormwater runoff from streets. The City of Jacksonville Streets Division will maintain ditches, creeks and streams to ensure that water continues to flow, allowing for proper drainage.
General Description:
The City is looking to fill a position within the Streets Division and are in need of a dependable individual in the maintenance and repair of small engines and tools. The Equipment Technician performs intermediate technical work in the purchasing, maintenance and repair of supplies and equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Street Superintendent.
The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $33,860.76 - $44,018.98 depending on qualifications.
Providing preventive maintenance, repair and maintenance of small engine equipment and the purchase, receipt, storage and disbursement of equipment, materials and supplies; maintains and documents inventory records and files. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)- Coordinates with maintenance supervisors for dispatch of equipment to maintenance crews.
- Coordinates equipment repairs and routine servicing with outside agencies.
- Researches and prepares equipment specifications.
- Performs limited technical inspections and quality control inspections on automotive, construction, and small engine equipment.
- Ensures equipment is safe and fully operational prior to issue.
- Prepares and submits repair orders.
- Services and repairs hand tools and equipment.
- Performs regular inspections on and rebuilds, repairs or replaces faulty tools and equipment.
- Maintains inventory levels of supplies, tools and equipment, and submits requests to replenish shortages.
- Contacts suppliers to research suitability and application and to determine availability of supplies.
- Participates in the work of receiving, storing and distributing a large and varied stock of equipment, supplies or parts.
- Follows established methods and procedures for the receipt and distribution of stock.
- Forwards stock replenishment requests for purchase.
- Ensures compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.
- Plans and evaluates the basic minor level maintenance of inventory and control records, including a perpetual inventory and periodic physical inventories.
- Makes recommendations to annual budgetary needs for equipment maintenance and repair.
- Operates forklift as required.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 6 months experience in mechanical repair.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Ability to obtain a Small Engine Repair Certification.
A tools repair assessment is required for this position.Basic knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of small engine equipment; intermediate knowledge and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery; ability to diagnose the more common defects in small engine equipment; ability to interpret work from sketches, diagrams and installation and repair charts; ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form; General knowledge of modern storage and inventory procedures; general knowledge in types of materials and parts requisitioned, received and stored; general knowledge of the applicable standard grades and qualities of equipment, materials, parts and supplies; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates; ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
