Education High School diploma or GED.
Summary
Patrols the city and responds to citizen’s requests and complaints regarding possible criminal activity such as disturbances, burglaries, prowlers, suspicious persons, etc.
Experience No previous experience is required.
Certifications CPR, Basic Peace Officer License, TLETS Certifications, TCOLE certification
Licensing Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a clear driving record.

Essential Job Functions
- Responds to radio dispatched emergency calls, traffic accidents and general requests for assistance. Calls for service may include frauds, thefts, burglaries, assaults, aggravated assaults, traffic complaints, deaths, civil issues, and assisting other agencies (Fire, EMS or other peach officers from other departments).
- Patrols assigned areas, generally by patrol car, to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer complaints. Allocates patrol time to identify and solve business and residential law violations.
- Traffic. Direct and controls traffic. Conducting traffic stops for traffic interactions. Investigates traffic stops to find if other illegal activities are also taking place (narcotics, wanted fugitive or stolen items).
- Special assignments. Training on shift, conducting narcotics detections/tracks/building searches/vehicle extractions/apprehensions.
- Community Engagement. Interact with citizens and business in the community to reduce crime and promote community relations. Informs the community on crime prevention, public safety and public awareness programs.
- Issues written warnings and citations to violators of city and state regulations and laws.
- Initiates cases for any frauds, burglaries, assaults, aggravated assaults, traffic complaints, deaths, civil issues, assisting other agencies (Fire, EMS or other peace officers from other departments), thefts.
- Report Writing. Writes detailed incident reports, arrest reports, offense reports, supplemental reports, activity reports, and other police related documents, forms and memorandums.
- Locates, searches, detains persons of interest, and arrests suspects following recognized police procedures.
- Secures crime scenes, interviews witnesses, victims, and suspects. Takes written and video statements and confessions.
- Collects, preserves, and labels evidence. Take photographs and fingerprints.
- Guards and transports mental patients to out of city facilities.
- Appears in court and testifies to present evidence by describing conditions, situations, and actions.

- Familiarity with State Traffic Codes, Criminal Procedure Codes, City Ordinances, Department Orders and Memos.
- Demonstrate courteous and helpful relations with the public and superior officers, as well as display the ability to provide general assistance as required.
- Demonstrate responsible behavior for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property and performing related assignments.
- Ability to enforce all statues, laws, ordinances, regulations and procedures of the City and Department.
Equipment tools commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Firearms proficiency, taser certification, OC Spray certification, baton certification, handcuffing techniques, radar certification, patrol rifle certification, DWI Practitioner certification.
Work Environment or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- May be required to work in high or dangerous places.
- Work may involve potentially life-threatening exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.
