OBJECTIVE:
Under general supervision and guidance of the Camp Supervisor and guidance/supervision of Recreation Programmer in the absence of Camp Supervisor, the Head Camp Counselor is responsible for providing on-site supervision for camp staff and participants in a safe manner. This person provides good communication between counselors, campers, parents, and supervisor. The Head Camp Counselor designs, prepares, and organizes daily camp activities/lesson plans while enforcing rules/discipline plan.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Camp Supervisor and the Recreation Programmer in the absence of the Camp Supervisor.
Works with seasonal employees on a regular basis and communicates with other division employees, professional staff, parents, campers, and the general public.
Supervises Camp Counselors in assigned age group.
Kids Count Camp Head Camp Counselor: (35–45 hours per week for 11-12 weeks)
(1 For 5-8 Year Olds and 1 For 9-12 Year Olds)
Must be available to work the whole duration of camp (dates given at interview)
Must be available for mandatory training during May 19-June 7, 2025.

e. Plans, organizes, and prepares all camp activities.

a. Ready for daily activities and programs through organizing needed equipment, supplies, and instructions for activities.
b. Responsible for coordinating and producing daily camp schedules.
b. Coordinates with Counselors in age group on how to lead activities and/or leads activities or delegates leading activities to specific staff.
d. Understands children's differences and needs. Reports issues to Camp Supervisor.
e. Emphasizes and models good sportsmanship.
f. Encourages children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement.
3. Responsible for enforcing camp rules.
a. Understands all camp and Recreation Division rules and procedures.
b. Enforces camp rules in a prompt, fair, and consistent manner.
c. Handles minor discipline or camper behavior issues. Reports both minor and major issues to Camp Supervisor for proper documentation and/or handling or handles in their absence. Assists Camp Supervisor with problem reports or completes in their absence.
d. Must be familiar with specific duties in the case of emergencies.
4. Responsible for camper safety.
a. Ensures camp area is free and safe from hazards.
b. Corrects or reports known safety issues immediately.
c. Works with Camp Supervisor to make changes to activities or procedures if needed.
d. Provides proper first aid and emergency care as needed. Reports to Supervisor for proper documentation. Assists with problem reports.
e. Reports major issues to Camp Supervisor and Recreation Programmer.
f. Serves as a positive role model to the participants.
5. Communicates effectively with the Camp Supervisor, camp counselors, C.I.T.s, campers, and parents.
a. Answers parent complaints and inquiries. Reports concerns to Camp Supervisor.
b. Communicates camper issues (both minor and major) to Camp Supervisor.
c. Alert, courteous, professional, and tactful in voice and body.
d. Makes requests and issues orders in a courteous, respectful, and mature manner.
e. Ensures customer satisfaction.
6. Supervise Camp Counselors and provide guidance to C.I.T.s.
a. Provides feedback to Camp Supervisor for Counselor roles/shifts, etc.
b. Motivates staff to provide a fun-filled and safe environment for all participants.
c. Monitors and documents staff and C.I.T. behavior and correct known issues.
d. Reports staff and C.I.T. behavior issues requiring discipline to Camp Supervisor.
e. Assists Camp Supervisor with staff and C.I.T. evaluations.
7. Assists with maintenance and general care of facility and equipment.
a. Keeps storage area clean and organized.
b. Maintains a clean pavilion/camp atmosphere.
c. Makes Camp Supervisor aware of any facility damages.
d. Understands opening and closing procedures.
e. Assists Camp Supervisor with the end of season equipment inventory.

Education, Certifications and Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Current Child and Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or willing to obtain.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license is required.
- Previous experience in a camp or classroom setting and supervisory experience preferred.
1. Knowledge of camp and/or camp supervision and child behavior preferred.

- Communication, working with children, and re-directing inappropriate behavior.

but are not limited to, swimming, fishing, biking, walking, hiking, crafts, sports, physical

uneven terrain without undue exertion.
3. Work will take place in an outdoor environment and varying types of weather, including
possibility of high heat and humidity.
4. Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
5. Perform essential program support to camp activities and programs which may
include, but not limited to the following activities: semi–reaching to full-reach
overhead, crouching, kneeling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces, overhead,
and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs and lying on stomach
or back.
6. Must be able to physically interact with kids for long periods of time each day.
7. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without
reasonable accommodation.
