What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parking Enforcement Attendant (S-22) position at City of Kalamazoo, MI?
*20 hours per week*
Currently hiring for the following shift:
Midnight shift: (Monday through Sunday) - 10 pm to 6 am with flexible work days
Training will be provided for 2 weeks during day shift (6am - 2 pm). Incumbents are responsible for enforcing parking ordinances throughout the designated area(s) as defined per position in a professional and customer service-oriented manner.
Duties may include:
- Providing consistent enforcement of parking ordinances
- Treating and interacting with City staff and customers in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner
- Issuing citations
- Testifying in court if needed
- Incorporating safe automobile and pedestrian procedures in course of daily activities
- Expeditiously contacting the appropriate person for repairs of parking meters, street signs, light poles, traffic problems, abandoned vehicles, customer vehicle repairs and related concerns and issues
- Reporting suspicious situations to your supervisor and/or Public Safety Officer
- Providing customer service when requested Maintaining safe and secure driving practices; and completing necessary reports and logs
- A high tolerance level and extreme patience are essential
- KDPS will provide vehicle, uniforms and radio
Examples of Duties
- Provides consistent enforcement of parking ordinances
- Interacts with and treats City staff and customers in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner
- Provides customer service upon request. High tolerance and extreme patience are essential
- Issues all citations using the designated electronic hand-held citation system
- Uses safe automobile and pedestrian procedures, and secure driving practices
- Testifies in court if/when needed
- Completes necessary reports and logs
- Reports suspicious situations to supervisor and/or Public Safety Officer
- Expeditiously contacts appropriate person for repairs of parking meters, street signs, light poles, scofflaws, traffic problems, abandoned vehicles, customer vehicle repairs, and other related concerns and issues
Essential Qualifications
Knowledge of (position requirements at entry):
- High school education or equivalent
- Customer service
- English comprehension and communication
- Ability to communicate verbally in English
- Ability to demonstrate capable of reading and writing in English
- High tolerance and extreme patience are essential
