Two full-time positions available with the City Planning Department, Census Data Forecasting Division located at 414 E. 12th Street
Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. *Telework schedule available after 6-month probationary period completed

Responsibilities

  • Manages and performs regular analysis of development data related to urban planning, including but not limited to census data, land use pattern analysis, dynamic and static map creation, and permit data.
  • Manages processes related to data development and maintenance, GIS analysis, map production, and report generation.
  • Knowledgeable in current technology (such as Microsoft products, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Adobe Suite) and provide leadership to create and provide data summaries, professional graphics, and trend analysis/forecasts by applying appropriate tools within a short timeframe and deadline.
  • Designs digital, static, and interactive maps with geographic data and other data sources.
  • Develops mapping applications and tools to aid in information distribution and decision making.
  • Produces reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
  • Utilizes ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, or ArcGIS Online in data visualization.
  • Develops sustainable systems of collecting and managing data points related to permitting, US Census, employment, transportation, land use and various data sets.
  • Delivers training and technical support to end-users.
  • Supervises and trains technical development staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications


REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of professional experience in economic or community development work, planning, building codes administration, engineering, architecture, or neighborhood development programs; OR an accredited Master's degree in economics, sociology, multi-disciplinary social science or urban affairs, urban planning, public or business administration, engineering, or architecture; OR high school graduation and 6 years of professional experience in economic or community development work, planning, building codes administration, engineering, architecture, or neighborhood development programs.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
