Full-time position available with the City Planning & Development Department, Permits Division located at 414 East 12th Street
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. *Telework available 1 day per week after 6 month probationary period.

Responsibilities
- Reviews submittals to ensure compliance to the requirements of building code and city ordinances.
- Provides customer service to external customers on the application process and requirements for CompassKC online system.
- Troubleshoots and coordinates customer difficulties in relation to the application review process.
- Performs Quality Control Review (QCR) of all applications public and private submitted for completeness.
- Handles street addressing and address changes for commercial properties.
- Routes plans to internal reviewing departments throughout the city, and external outside agencies as needed.
- Prepares plans for permit issuance upon plan review approval.
- Interacts with design professionals, contractors, other governmental agencies, and public.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor’s degree in economics, sociology, multi-disciplinary social science or urban affairs, urban planning, public or business administration, engineering, or architecture; OR high school graduation and 4 years of professional experience in economic or community development work, planning, building codes administration, engineering, architecture, or neighborhood development programs. Preference given for experience in municipal construction as it relates to building codes, construction plans, and public infrastructure.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
