Job Responsibilities
The Position
The Director or Public Works is dedicated to the stewardship, construction, and maintenance of the roadway infrastructure and the parks system and will be responsible for administering the contract under which the City of Arlington operates and maintains the water and wastewater system. Additionally, this role is responsible for enforcing all stormwater policies and regulations necessary to maintain the City's iSWM silver certification. The director manages the operations, services, programs and work activities for effective and efficient service to our residents. This role is responsible for maintaining the safety of public roadways including replacement and repair of pavement and potholes, replacement of street signs and guard rails, repair of roadways after water and wastewater breaks, review of plans and contracts for City construction projects, and supervision of street overlays and reconstructions on Tarrant County Road Projects. This role must be committed to creating a climate that promotes partnership and trust across the organization and the community. Performance Measurement
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor"s degree preferred);
Minimum of 5 years' experience working in municipal public works in a supervisory role;
Proficiency in using computer software applications including CAD and GIS;
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to maintain working relationships with residents, businesses, coworkers and outside agencies;
Intrinsic motivation, high ethical and moral standards;
Regular, reliable attendance;
Ability to work well under stressful conditions including deescalating encounters with dissatisfied stakeholders;
Ability to work within deadlines and prioritize competing demands; and
Additional requirements as noted in the role description.
License, Certificate, or Other Requirements
Facilities Certification Level I, or ability to obtain Certification is preferred.
Stormwater Certification, or ability to obtain Certification is preferred.
Valid class "C" State of Texas Driver"s license.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and MVR check
The individual must possess supervisory and managerial experience in public works or an equivalent field. Must be able to obtain licenses and certifications as required by TCEQ. Computer skills are required. CDL preferred. Additional Information
