GENERAL NATURE OF WORK
The purpose of this classification is to educate and provide valuable experience to students who have a passion for public service and would like to pursue a career in local government.
Job Responsibilities

The intern will assist with the Butterfly Exhibit, which is our largest exhibit at Smith Gilbert Gardens. As an intern, you will provide excellent experiences for our guests under supervision.
Additionally, you will help with ticket sales and operating the gift shop.

Please note: This is a part-time internship position (16-24 hours)
Typical Hours: 8:00am - 2:00pm
Must be available to work Saturdays as it is our busiest day of the week
ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the posted position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Work Environment: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

- Understands the overall vision and mission of the city, including the brand, service to the citizens/general public, and all other aspects of service.
- Rotates through the assigned department and learn responsibility and provides innovative ideas to grow and improve the city.
- Accepts designated, city-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final project during the internship.
- Engages with citizens or other city employees and provides service.
- Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes.
- Learns and becomes proficient on internal software systems as needed
