WATER MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Hourly rate: $25.21-28.21 per hour, depending on experience
Hours of work: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Basic Function:
Incumbents are non-benefited temporary laborers performing routine maintenance work for the City. Work direction is provided by assigned supervisor or designee. Previous work experience performing duties identified below is desirable, however not required.
Duties:
Assist maintenance crews in routine pump station and water system maintenance including painting, cleaning, pressure washing, and minor repairs; cleaning and painting fire hydrants and guard posts; weed-eating around fire hydrants, fences, and gates; and performing other related tasks as required. The incumbents must have the ability to operate maintenance equipment such as weed-eaters, tamper, lolly popper and jack hammer. Incumbents may be required to operate standard size pickups and/or sedans with hand and foot control. These positions may at times be required to work in high motor and pedestrian traffic areas.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and must be able to verify employment eligibility at time of hire; must successfully pass the City’s pre-employment substance abuse screening; must have an acceptable driving record; and must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk and hear. The incumbent frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb ladders and balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The incumbent is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and is occasionally required to lift and/or move in excess of 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a field environment; may be exposed to individuals who are difficult; and may be required to travel to different sites. Work is usually performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. These positions may at times be required to work in high motor and pedestrian traffic areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington's Department of Retirement Systems.
