Job Description
The City of Kettering Ohio is recruiting to fill a full-time Buildings Service I vacancy in its Public Service Department. The primary duty of the individual hired to fill this position will be to work independently and along with other staff maintaining repairing installing replacing and testing communication and control cabling and electrical systems and components including wiring and generator systems. Additional responsibilities include maintenance and repair of appliances equipment motors security systems automatic doors generator systems and disaster sirens at over 40 City-owned and managed facilities outbuildings ball fields and sports courts. This position reports to and works under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. This position also performs a wide variety of general building maintenance duties in areas of plumbing carpentry masonry painting heating and air conditioning. Duties also include maintenance and repair of routine plumbing problems; repair roofing; moving office furniture and equipment; and painting the interiors and exteriors of buildings. This position also participates in snow removal operations during the winter weather season. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of standard practices materials and tools used in building and equipment maintenance work; knowledge of carpentry painting and plumbing and skill in the use of tools. Must have the ability to grasp lift and maneuver hand tools power tools equipment and materials of various weights and sizes in a safe and effective manner. Must have the ability to walk sit stoop and bend for extended periods of time; ability to understand and follow written instructions; knowledge of basic math; ability to understand follow and communicate oral instructions; ability to exercise alertness and judgment to report possible hazards; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees City officials contractors and the general public; and adequate physical condition to perform position duties. Must have a valid Ohio Driver's License at the time of appointment with the ability to obtain and maintain a Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement. Must be available and willing to work required overtime. Experience with commercial HVAC and electrical systems is preferred. COMPENSATION: The entry rate for this Building Service I position ranges from $23.75/hr ($49400/yr) up to the maximum rate of $33.76/hr ($70221/yr) with promotional opportunities available to a maximum rate of $38.52/hr ($80122/yr); excellent benefits.
