GENERAL PURPOSE
To instruct patrons on water familiarization, water safety, and beginner, intermediate and advanced swimming levels.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Maintains and enforces pool safety.
Submits reports to supervisor on accidents, damage to facilities and equipment, problems among staff, and complaints from facility users.
Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Aquatics Supervisor and the American Red Cross Swimming Program.
Organizes and directs activities of assigned students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
Ensures that all class students are registered thoroughly involved in meaningful instruction for the two week duration and are in receipt of appropriate certificates and awards as the session concludes.
Establishes positive public relations with parents/guardians of class students helping them recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.
Completes and submits records and documentation of completed lessons to the Aquatics Supervisor and the American Red Cross office.
Works with the Aquatics Supervisor on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups and various skill levels.
Non-essential Functions
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Previous experience as a water safety instructor or a lifeguard preferred.
Must have American Red Cross W.S.I. certification upon hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Special Requirements
Must be able to work from 8:30 am until 7:00 pm. Must be able to work weekends.
Tools And Equipment Used
Water safety equipment, pool equipment, wet/dry vac
Physical Demands
This position requires someone to be able to lift and carry equipment for pools up to 75 pounds. Must be able to handle paperwork, set up facility, and to perform CPR/First Aid/AED.Must be able to consistently monitor swimmers.
Work Environment
This position requires that the individual work outdoors for prolonged periods of time, and be exposed to various weather conditions.
Temporary and Seasonal employees do not receive City benefits, as authorized for regular full-time or regular part-time employees.

The position requires applicants be 16 years of age or older. Will you be 16 years of age or older by date of hire?

Can you work as early as 5:00 am?
