·                     Description 

Performs skilled technical work in the upkeep of the building and grounds at a municipal stadium, and related work as required.   Work is performed under the supervision of the Stadium Maintenance Supervisor.  Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate part- time personnel.

Maintains baseball playing surface to minor league specifications; performs various landscaping duties on field and outside grounds such as mowing, edging, fertilizing, dragging, watering, aerating, soil testing, maintains infield clay; packing mounds, raking, over-seeding and grading.

Repairs batters’ box; troubleshoots and repairs irrigation system; plans and applies year round fertilizer, insecticide and pesticide program.

Sets up batting cage, protective screens, turf savers and other equipment for practice.

Plans and coordinates special events; works with event coordinators to handle details; serves as liaison between the City and team staff.

Assists in training seasonal grounds keeping staff; sets hours and schedule for personnel.

Maintains vehicle maintenance sheets on equipment; performs small repairs on landscaping equipment and tools.

Reads field lighting design plans to assist with field light placement; orders and changes field light bulbs.

Performs related tasks as required.

General knowledge of basic turf-grass maintenance; general knowledge of fertilizers, pesticides and other materials used in turf-grass work; general knowledge of ball field maintenance and care; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to use specialized tools and equipment associated with stadium and field maintenance and repair; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, associates and the general public.

 

Associates/Technical degree with coursework in turf grass or sports field management, or related field and moderate experience in sports field or turf-grass management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years’ experience preferred.

 

Possession of North Carolina Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Operators License (Turf and Ornamental Category). Possession of Turf-grass Professional and Sports Field Manager certifications preferred.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; work requires depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
