General Statement
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance of electrical, HVAC, structural, and plumbing systems for City facilities, including lighting, ceiling tiles, and doors.
- Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, saws, drills, or wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
- Perform preventive maintenance service on all systems on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.
- Respond to City-wide maintenance and facility needs, complaints, and work orders in a timely manner.
- Assess and determines appropriate repair/maintenance course of actions, coordinates with external contractors when appropriate.
- Drive to and from site in order to complete work assignments. Communicates with co-workers to coordinate activities.
- Assemble workstations, chairs, and other equipment as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with electrical, plumbing, construction, or facilities maintenance experience.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle’s vehicle insurance provider.
- Must pass a criminal background check prior to start, to secure access to restricted areas.?
- Knowledge of applicable State, Federal, and local laws related to safety; able to perform job tasks safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of basic math skills: addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Skill in determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Skill in installing equipment, machines, wiring or programs to meet specifications.
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with city staff departments/personnel, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
- Ability to remain calm and act resourcefully in an emergency.
- Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and city vehicles.
- Ability to communicate with Facilities Manager, co-workers, and the public; must work well with other employees in order to accomplish tasks safely and efficiently.
- Ability to read and interpret City policies and procedures, maintenance, documentation, layouts/instructions, and manufacturers' information.
- Ability to write work orders for the repair of equipment.
