Parks Technician

General Statement

The Parks Technician, under the guidance of the Beautification Supervisor, is responsible for maintaining park landscapes, including landscape beds, monuments, gateways, and both native and general landscaping features throughout the City of Kyle. This role plays a vital part in preserving the health, aesthetics, and sustainability of green spaces while enhancing overall beautification efforts. Additionally, the technician provides support for minor maintenance tasks as needed to uphold high park standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaping beds, monuments, grounds, and right of ways; may operate equipment such as but not limited to tractors, flat-bed trucks, dump trucks, mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, and other equipment.
• Performs gardening/landscape application to include pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer; participates in soil management.
• Removes debris and trash from City facilities, parks, medians, rights-of-way, landscape areas, monuments, trims trees, mows grass and runs trimming and clipping through chipper.
• Performs construction related work in parks and park facilities, including; pipe-laying, basic carpentry, pouring concrete, installing irrigation systems, and minor electrical maintenance.
• Assists with maintenance of electrical work and plumbing for City facilities.
• Performs daily facility preparation tasks including; janitorial duties at all City parks facilities, activity field sand outdoor restrooms; secures restrooms after park curfew; performs set-up and take down of tables and chairs for rental facilities or other city-sponsored events.

Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle’s vehicle insurance provider.
• Ability to operate landscaping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, tractors, and other power tools.
• Basic knowledge of safety procedures when handling tools, machinery, and chemicals.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor

• One (1) or more years of experience as an equipment operator, , park maintenance, right-of-way maintenance, landscaping, general construction, irrigation, electrical, or a related field.
• Certifications in pesticide application, irrigation, or turf management.
• Experience in minor plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry.
• Prior municipal or government experience in a similar role.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

• Assists other divisions and departments when needed including tasks outside of normal responsibilities.
• Work at special events, tournaments outside of normal work hours.

• Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions; machinery with moving parts, hazardous chemicals/materials, and infectious diseases are involved.

Employment with the City of Kyle is contingent upon the outcome of record checks and verifications including, but not limited to, criminal history, driving records, education records, employment verifications, reference checks, and employment eligibility verifications.
