What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Technician position at City of Kyle?
- Maintain landscaping beds, monuments, grounds, and right of ways; may operate equipment such as but not limited to tractors, flat-bed trucks, dump trucks, mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, and other equipment.
- Performs gardening/landscape application to include pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer; participates in soil management.
- Removes debris and trash from City facilities, parks, medians, rights-of-way, landscape areas, monuments, trims trees, mows grass and runs trimming and clipping through chipper.
- Performs construction related work in parks and park facilities, including; pipe-laying, basic carpentry, pouring concrete, installing irrigation systems, and minor electrical maintenance.
- Assists with maintenance of electrical work and plumbing for City facilities.
- Performs daily facility preparation tasks including; janitorial duties at all City parks facilities, activity field sand outdoor restrooms; secures restrooms after park curfew; performs set-up and take down of tables and chairs for rental facilities or other city-sponsored events.
- Assists with City special events and holiday activities; planning, implementing, trash collection, keeping the event area clean, parking direction, and other duties.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be eligible for coverage under the City of Kyle’s vehicle insurance provider.
- Ability to operate landscaping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, tractors, and other power tools.
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures when handling tools, machinery, and chemicals.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) or more years of experience as an equipment operator, , park maintenance, right-of-way maintenance, landscaping, general construction, irrigation, electrical, or a related field.
- Certifications in pesticide application, irrigation, or turf management.
- Experience in minor plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry.
- Prior municipal or government experience in a similar role.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Assists other divisions and departments when needed including tasks outside of normal responsibilities.
- Work at special events, tournaments outside of normal work hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions; machinery with moving parts, hazardous chemicals/materials, and infectious diseases are involved.
